The Research Leadership Award
The Research Leadership Award honours a researcher who has made an exceptional contribution to the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada research program. Nominated by their fellow scientists, recipients of the Research Leadership Award are innovative leaders who have participated in the development and delivery of the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada research portfolio and have played a role in Canada’s reputation as a global leader in IBD research. Nominations are due July 31, 2017.
Past recipient: Dr. Brian Feagan, London, ON
Dr. Feagan has revolutionized the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases in Canada. His research has led to changes in clinical practice globally, and continues to transform the management of inflammatory bowel diseases. He is a role-model of research success in Canada. There is no question that Dr. Feagan has elevated the status of Crohn’s and colitis research in Canada and around the world. As an acclaimed researcher, he has led and supported strong research projects that will benefit patients and drive discovery in the field.
As a Professor at the University of Western Ontario, he has published in over 200 high-impact journals, including 13 articles in the New England Journal of Medicine. His recent work on a drug for hard-to-treat Crohn’s and colitis is being recognized around the world, and has boosted Canada’s research profile even higher. He has a long history of helping other scientists, including pioneering educational programs including a fellowship program in clinical research to mentor future generations of researchers. In addition, Dr. Feagan is equally remarkable outside the lab. He has supported Crohn’s and Colitis Canada at every turn: as a speaker at our events across the country, as a member of our Scientific and Medical Advisory Board and research grant committee, and as a passionate advocate for patients, research fundraisers, staff and supporters.
